Sideways Strategies Inc. is a family-owned skateboard and snowboard coaching business in Golden, BC, established in 2021 and run by professional snowboarder and lifelong skateboarder Jessie Oatway.

Our skateboard programs welcome all ages and skill levels, including complete beginners. Our snowboard coaching is designed for experienced riders who want to expand their knowledge of big mountain terrain and develop advanced freeride skills. Our coaches are also available to support athletes competing in sanctioned IFSA freeride events, where competitors are required to have a certified coach.

Sideways Strategies helps riders progress safely and efficiently with guidance from our fully certified local coaches. We tailor our approach to each rider’s unique strengths, abilities, and goals.

All of our coaches are certified through Canada Skateboard and or Snowboard Canada and IFSA, and are affiliated with the NCCP. Our team is trained in Sport for Life principles, child development, adult allyship, concussion awareness (CATT), and basic first aid.

We carry $5 million in commercial liability insurance, and all coaches are additionally covered by WCB. Every member of our team has also completed a Stage 4 criminal record check.

Our programs focus on skill progression, mentorship, and developing a deeper understanding of sideways sports, empowering riders to enjoy a safe, healthy, lifelong riding lifestyle.

In addition to coaching certifications, our team has completed training in trauma-informed practice, gender based violence awareness, and positive masculinity education, helping us create supportive and respectful environments for every rider.
